St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Grane Forks, North Dakota was first organized s a parish January 16, 1880 and land for a building was purchased at the corner of North Fifth Street and First Avenue North the following spring. The first service was held June 12, 1881. After World War II a new site was purchased at Gertrude and South Fifth Street and the cornerstone was laid on September 14, 1949 and September 3, 1950 the first service was held. Arthur (also known as Murphy) Raymond was born in Winner, South Dakota, January 18, 1923. He is an Oglala Lakota. He graduated at the top of his class at the Rosebud Boarding School, then enlisted in the Army and saw combat in World War II. He graduated in 1951 from Dakota Wesleyan University in Economics.
